Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Toronto Raptors

For years now, Toronto has been a legit title contender in the Eastern Conference and while Kyle Lowry has been at the forefront of their success, he does not have many years left in his career. For an organization that has championship aspirations for many years to come, it is hard to see where Lowry fits into this conversation as he does not provide them with much of a future on his part.

With him coming off six straight seasons of being named an NBA All-Star, Lowry’s value on the trade market will never be higher, especially given his age. While they would not receive the draft compensation they would hope for in a Lowry-oriented trade, getting Patrick Beverley and Marcus Morris Sr. could really help the Raptors now.

Beverley not only helps make them a better defensive team, but Marcus Morris helps make the Raptors better offensively. Most importantly, both players give the Raptors depth, something they are currently lacking.

Toronto would still have their frontcourt issues, but they would be able to rotate guys around in different lineups to make up for their lack of consistency in the frontcourt. Siakam can be the center in “Small-ball” lineups for the Raptors and with versatile players like Norman Powell and O.G. Anunoby, the Raptors could actually be a better defensive team without Lowry.

Not only would this trade help them now in their pursuit for more championships, but in the future as well since they would have a great blend of veteran and young talents on their roster. While this Clippers trade may not hold the most value compared to other trades the Raptors could get for Lowry, Toronto definitely gets some key role players who could make an immediate impact.
