This Cavs-Clippers trade sends Andre Drummond to L.A.

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs want to trade Andre Drummond, that is no secret, and they actually get some pretty good value out of this trade. Patrick Beverley has one year left on his contract after this season and could actually be a key veteran player in the backcourt for them.

He is a great on-ball defender, something the Cavaliers do not have, and could be an excellent secondary player they could look to utilize in their second-rotation. Marcus Morris Sr. could be a great veteran wing player to have as a well, but it is a matter of whether or not they would want to keep him.

The Clippers just signed Morris to a four-year, $64M contract this past offseason, which is something that may not be ideal for the Cavs to absorb. He could contribute for them for sure, but for a younger team looking to grow into a playoff team, having that much money invested in an older player is not too ideal.

However, getting two key veteran players, some second-round picks and a future first-round pick is not bad at all. The Cavs could probably get better trade offers for Drummond including more first-round picks sooner than 2027, but at the end of the day, they probably will not get another offer that has two proven veteran talents attached to it.

This trade not only helps the Cavs in the future with the draft picks they receive for Drummond, but it can also help them now as Beverley and Morris can contribute immediately. They may not make the playoffs this year, but next year and down the road, this team is suddenly a threat and a team that can play 10-11 guys deep.

Trading Andre Drummond is inevitable, it is just a matter of what exactly the Cavaliers are looking for. If they are comfortable accepting some veetran talent that can help them now, then the Clippers would be a great trade partner for the Cavs.
