Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Terry Rozier, F Jalen McDaniels

Charlotte Hornets: G Jalen Brunson, C Dwight Powell, F Maxi Kleber, DAL 2022 1st Round Pick, DAL 2026 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)

After drafting LaMelo Ball as their point guard of the future and after the emergence of Devonte’ Graham last season, many believe Terry Rozier would be the odd-man-out in Charlotte but he has completely shut down all of the haters. This situation is why he has been mentioned in recent NBA trade rumors. Rozier is currently averaging 21.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and is shooting 46.0% from three-point range.

Just in the month of February alone, Terry Rozier has been as dominant as any player in the league, averaging 27.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and shooting 47.2% from three-point range. The 26-year old guard has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season and also has 5 games scoring 30+ points this year.

He is exactly the kind of scorer the Mavericks need next to Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis and could be the player to help elevate this team to championship contender status. Since leaving Boston ahead of the 2019-20 season, Terry Rozier has been one of the most consistent guards in the league, which is why the Mavericks should be willing to do everything they can to acquire him.

In this trade scenario, the Hornets would be getting two future first-round picks, Jalen Brunson, Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber in return, which is not bad value at all. Brunson is starting to emerge as a great, young point guard in this league and both Powell and Kleber could aid the Hornets frontcourt, which is a mess right now.

Brunson is not as dynamic of a scorer or facilitator as Terry Rozier, but he is more than capable of holding his own in the second-unit and is shooting nearly 38% from three-point range this season. Maxi Kleber is also a pretty consistent three-point shooter, shooting 45.3% from deep this season.

The Hornets are on the verge of making the playoffs and while Terry Rozier has been a big part of their success early on this season, getting three key role players to add on to this team’s depth could be more valuable in the long-run. Now, let’s take a look at why exactly this trade makes sense for both the Mavericks and the Hornets.
