Golden State Warriors
If Cousins is looking for the most playing time possible and a team that could use another elite scorer, then a reunion with the Golden State Warriors makes a lot of sense. Cousins was with the Warriors during the 2018-19 season, playing in just 30 regular season games, but with all of the injuries they have in their frontcourt, there is a direct path for Cousins to make a big impact with them.
This Warriors team lives and dies based on if Steph Curry is playing and he literally does everything on the offensive-end of the course for this team. Sure, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins can provide some scoring here and there, but this team is going to be as successful as Curry can make them.
If this Warriors team is going to be a legit playoff team this year, then they need to add another weapon because nothing about Golden State’s bench scares their opponents. Kent Bazemore, Kevon Looney, Eric Paschal and Damion Lee are all solid players, but they are not key guys that will come into the game and score 15+ points per night consistently.
This Warriors team needs that extra spark off-the-bench in order to be true contenders in a crowded Western Conference, which is why adding DeMarcus Cousins makes a lot of sense. The Warriors’ frontcourt has been short handed over the past few weeks, as Kevon Looney is nursing an ankle injury and James Wiseman has been out with a wrist injury.
Wiseman should be returning soon, as should Looney, but even with them both healthy and in the lineup, the Warriors still need help offensively. Cousins could join this team and be a consistent double-digit scorer off-the-bench that already knows their system and would not need time to get familiar with how they play.
He has a great relationship with Curry and Green already and that could go a long way in him making his decision. James Wiseman will obviously get the most playing time out of any big man on their roster, but Cousins could be an excellent backup center and a mentor for the young center.
Everything about Boogie signing with the Warriors again makes sense and it would be one of the better places he could go when he gets released by the Rockets.
