The New York Knicks have been looking to bring in a superstar over the last few years, but have been unable to make that happen. Names like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Victor Oladipo, and many more have been mentioned. Now, it appears that they are looking at potentially trying to trade for Portland Trail Blazers star CJ McCollum.
According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, the Knicks are currently “monitoring” McCollum ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
“The Knicks have been linked to other potential trade targets in various reports, including Zach LaVine in Chicago, Victor Oladipo in Houston and Lonzo Ball in New Orleans,” the New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy wrote. “A source said they’re also monitoring Portland’s CJ McCollum, who is rehabbing from a broken foot and still has about $100 million guaranteed over three years after this season.”
McCollum would be a huge pickup for the Knicks. He is the kind of star that they could build around moving forward. However, there is no guarantee that the Blazers will be looking to move him.
So far this season with Portland, McCollum has averaged 26.7 points per game to go along with 5.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds. In addition to those averages, he has shot 47.3 percent from the floor and 44.1 percent from the three-point line.
At 29 years old, the Knicks would be getting a player that could help power them back to the playoffs. CJ McCollum has been overshadowed by Damian Lillard, but no one can miss just how good he has been.
It will be interesting to see what kind of moves are made ahead of the NBA trade deadline. McCollum may not end up getting traded, but this is something to keep an eye on.
Expect to hear more rumors surrounding the Knicks as the trade deadline draws closer. CJ McCollum would be a perfect fit and is a name to watch.
