Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Golden State Warriors

Kevon Looney has been a big time contributor to the Warriors off-the-bench over the years and has helped them win two championships since he joined the team. He has been instrumental in helping them defensively, but he has not provided them with much of anything offensively.

Golden State already struggles to score in their frontcourt, as Draymond Green is more of a facilitator than a scorer, which is one of the main reasons they could look to move Looney for the right price. Doug McDermott can not only aid Draymond in the frontcourt, but he can provide the Warriors with some much needed scoring at virtually any position.

The Warriors would definitely have a lack of size, especially with James Wiseman out, but with Green, Paschall and Toscano-Anderson, the Warriors would have options to be able to roll out a “small-ball” lineup with either of these three guys playing the center position.

Jordan Poole is a player the Warriors are also high on and has potential to grow into a very solid perimeter shooter, but if this team is to make the playoffs this year and remain as title contenders moving forward, they are going to have to make moves to add scoring depth. Poole cannot aid this team now, but Doug McDermott can.

Getting McDermott, who can provide some much needed scoring now, as well as two second-round picks over the next three years makes a lot of sense for the Warriors. They have always been a team that looks to build their roster through the draft and have found some “diamonds in the rough” over the years in the second-round.

Not only does this trade give them the opportunity to look for more young talent to add to their roster, but it gives them a much needed reliable bench scorer who can play in virtually any lineup. Doug McDermott would be a great fit in Steve Kerr’s system and could be an excellent secondary scorer next to Steph Curry.
