Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks

For the first time in what feels like a decade, the Knicks have a competitive basketball team. They are currently in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference as we approach the trade deadline and all-star break. A playoff appearance would be huge for a franchise that has turned into the laughingstock of the league.

They can take a step closer to accomplishing that goal by adding a player at the deadline. Since the offseason, the Knicks have been involved in NBA trade rumors. The front office said in the offseason that they were interested in adding an undesirable contract but did not make any sort of move. Here, Malik Beasley would be the player coming over.

The Knicks are currently 18th in the league shooting 36.1% from the three-point line. This is an area they would like to improve and that is what Beasley would do. Burks is on a one-year deal and would not be difficult to send away. Ntilikina has been glued to the bench so if a team is willing to take him, the Knicks should jump at the opportunity.

If Julius Randle continues this level of play, the Knicks will have a chance to land a seven or eight seed in the East. The all-star break will definitely help as Randle is playing 36.7 minutes per game. It has been a long time since the Knicks made a blockbuster deal so it will be interesting to see if they pull the trigger on one moving forward.
