Why This Trade Would Benefit The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers accomplished plenty in the offseason after winning an NBA championship. They locked up LeBron James and Anthony Davis, signed Kyle Kuzma to an extension, and landed some impact players in trades and free agency.
It began when they acquired Dennis Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder and continued with Montrezl Harrell in free agency. Harrell signed a two-year deal with the Lakers. So far, he has been one of the best bench pieces in the league. Because of his current contract situation, the Lakers could send him away. He is under a short-term contract and it is unknown what his future is in Los Angeles.
The Raptors are a team that was connected to Harrell in free agency so they will have some interest. Caldwell-Pope is another player that has been featured in NBA trade rumors. Powell has turned into a consistent option along the perimeter and can fill it up from deep.
We have seen over the years that LeBron James likes to have shooters along the perimeter to kick the ball out to. This is what Powell would bring to the table immediately. The Lakers would also get some frontcourt depth with Baynes.
