This Pistons-Sixers trade lands Delon Wright in Philadelphia

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Philadelphia 76ers

Outside of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris, this Philadelphia 76ers team does not have many reliable scoring options. They primarily play through Embiid and when he gets in trouble, either Simmons or Harris look to make something happen on offense.

While all three of these guys are great players, this team is very reminiscent of the Boston Celtics last year. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker are all fantastic players and carried the Celtics all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, but they ultimately fell to the Miami Heat because of their lack of production outside of their three star players.

If the Sixers want to make it to the NBA Finals this season and take down teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, then they are going to have improve their secondary talent on this team. Danny Green has been very unproductive at times this year and with no reliable backcourt play, it would make a ton of sense for them to target an all-around solid guard in Delon Wright.

Wright can not only compliment the “Big 3” in Philly well, but he is more than capable of being a key player in the second-rotation for the 76ers when Joel Embiid and/or Ben Simmons or Tobias Harris are out of the game. At times this year, Wright has been the Pistons most productive offensive player outside of Jerami Grant, which proves he is more than capable of being an x-factor for the Philadelphia 76ers in their title pursuit.

Getting Rodney McGruder is also not bad for the Sixers because he is more than capable of providing them with depth. With no real reliable forward options outside of Tobias Harris, McGruder could possibly work his way into the rotation in Philly and be a key role player down the stretch.

While they would give up a 2022 1st Round Pick, the 76ers would be getting a future 2024 1st Round Pick, giving them draft assets down the road in case things do not go the way they hope over the next few seasons.

If the 76ers want to maximize their chances to win a title this year, then trading for Delon Wright at a low-cost, high-reward value makes a lot of sense. He can be a difference maker for a championship caliber team, which is exactly why the 76ers should show a lot of interest in trading for him before this year’s NBA trade deadline.
