Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Delon Wright, G Rodney McGruder, DET 2024 1st Round Pick

Detroit Pistons Receive: G Danny Green, G Furkan Korkmaz, PHI 2022 1st Round Pick

While they just acquired Danny Green this past offseason to be a key, championship caliber wing for them, he has not been having the season the 76ers had hoped for. Green is averaging just 8.5 points and shooting 39.4% from the floor, which is why Philadelphia could be willing to move him for a player like Delon Wright.

Not only is Wright more versatile than Green, but he can also aid the 76ers backcourt when Ben Simmons is not in the game. One of the biggest weaknesses of this Philly team is that they do not have a true floor general outside of Simmons, which is why getting Delon Wright would be a huge deal for the 76ers.

Whether it is scoring, passing, rebounding or playing very solid one-on-one defense, Delon Wright can literally do it all and can take a lot of stress off of the “Big 3” in Philly. His ability to be a true facilitator for star players makes him a very worthwhile trade asset for the 76ers and someone they must pursue before the trade deadline. This remains something to monitor in NBA trade rumors.

Rodney McGruder is also an interesting veteran player the Sixers would be getting in this trade. The 29-year old wing has bounced around from team-to-team over the years and has never really found a team where he can contribute meaningful minutes off-the-bench. Given the chance, McGruder can be a really solid perimeter threat that can contribute 15-20 minutes per game and shoot well-above 34% from three-point range.

For Detroit, if they were to trade Delon Wright, they would have to make sure they are setting themselves up for future success, which is what this trade allows them to do. Danny Green is in the final year of his contract, freeing up $15.3M for the Pistons next offseason and Kurkan Korkmaz is a young, reliable sharpshooter on the wing who could be re-signed for a small price.

Both teams seem to get exactly what they need in this trade, but why exactly does it make sense for both teams? Let’s take a closer look.
