Would This Trade Work For The Cleveland Cavaliers?
It’s clear the primary objective of the Cleveland Cavaliers is to move on from Andre Drummond and hopefully by doing so with a trade. Being able to land anything of value in return for a player who is being sat while on an expiring deal is a real plus.
Jarrett Allen is clearly the long-term answer for the Cavaliers at the center position. He thrives doing the dirty work on both ends and has proven to bring value in ways that Andre Drummond’s box score stats just haven’t quite managed to do.
There’s not a lot to get excited about in terms of the return the Cavaliers would receive in this particular deal. Kevin Knox II has been a bad NBA player since being drafted by the New York Knicks. At the very least, they can take a chance on the former lottery pick.
The real value for the Cavaliers is addition by subtraction. Cleveland has seen enough from Andre Drummond to know that he isn’t part of their long-term plans. The opportunity to acquire Jarrett Allen presented itself and they took full advantage — eliminating a need to hang onto Drummond. It’s as simple as that.
