Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Chicago Bulls
Outside of Zach LaVine, production has been hard to come by for the Chicago Bulls. They have a bunch of youthful talent that are continuing to grow, which is why trading LaVine and adding onto their young core makes a lot of sense.
Through 25 games this season, Lonnie Walker IV is averaging 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and is shooting 35.5% from three-point range. Patty Mills in 27 games is averaging 13.2 points, 2.7 assists and is shooting 40% from three-point range.
Both of these guys could be key role players for the Bulls moving forward and Mills gives the Bulls a reliable point guard option next to Coby White. Both players are more scorers than facilitators on the court, but Mills could be an excellent mentor for White, who is in his second-year in the NBA.
Both Patty Mills and Lonnie Walker IV could be a part of the Chicago Bulls organization for many years to come, but the best part about trading Zach LaVine are the two immediate first-round picks they would receive.
Getting a first-round pick in 2021 and 2023 gives Chicago even more opportunities to continue stockpiling young players with a lot of potential in hopes to finally end the rebuild that has been going on since 1998.
Already having a young core in place, the Bulls could continue to add youthful talent to their roster and not only have a young, athletic group, but a well-balanced team in terms of experience and youth. Trading Zach LaVine and getting cap room, a young player like Lonnie Walker, and plenty of draft capital could be very useful for the Bulls as they look to turn themselves back into a legit threat in the Eastern Conference.
