Dwyane Wade says Anthony Edwards could be better than he was

Things have not been good for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. They have the worst record in the NBA, compiling a record of 7-21 so far. A big reason for the poor performance has been players going in and out of the lineup.

Star center Karl-Anthony Towns missed time because he tested positive for COVID-19. Now, offseason acquisition D’Angelo Russell will be missing time as he is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Former lottery pick Jarrett Culver has also missed time because of injury.

Minnesota has a solid young core on paper, it just has not translated to the court yet. Arguably the one with the most potential is the No. 1 overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards.

Anthony Edwards came out of Georgia ready-made for the NBA. He has prototypical size to dominate wings on both sides of the court, standing 6’4” and weighing 229 pounds. He has to clean up some things, such as shot selection as he was the only go-to offensive weapon in college. However, the ceiling is sky-high for Edwards and we have seen glimpses of it.

In Minnesota’s previous game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Edwards scored a career-high 28 points and stuffed the stat sheet. He added seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal in easily the best game of his young career.

People took notice of the performance. While making an appearance on NBA on TNT, Dwyane Wade spoke very highly of the rookie. Wade likes what he sees so much that he said Edwards has a chance to be better than he was.

That is incredible praise for a player only 28 games into his NBA career. But, there has to be something that Wade sees that he believes so much in Edward’s skills to develop.

Minnesota can only hope that Edwards sniffs a career that Dwyane Wade had. If that happens, it is only a matter of time until the Timberwolves turn things around with Edwards as the centerpiece of the resurgence.
