Why This Trade Would Benefit The Washington Wizards

Years ago, Kyle Lowry would have been a welcome addition to Washington. Now, fans might be scratching their heads on why this trade would be made. The duo of Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal is not working so it is likely that one of them will be sent away prior to the NBA trade deadline.

Beal has been the hot name on the market but he keeps claiming that he does not want to be dealt because of his loyalty to Washington. Westbrook does not have that same loyalty. If Washington was to send Westbrook away, they would get his enormous contract off the books.

Lowry has just one year left on his deal where he will earn $30.5 million this season. That means he will be eligible to become a free agent at the end of the year. Even if Washington does not want to re-sign him, they can let him walk and have all the money back that they saved on Westbrook.

This seems like more of a financial move for the Wizards than anything. Those are the kind of moves at the front office should focus on given the inept nature of the team on the floor. The Wizards need more than one move to point them in the right direction but this could be a start.
