The Los Angeles Lakers are headed for what could be a very interesting NBA trade deadline. While there aren’t expected to be many blockbuster deals, the Lakers could look to make an upgrade at the center position. One name to keep an eye on could be Orlando Magic big man Mo Bamba.
Back in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Magic selected Bamba with the No. 6 overall pick. It was a move that many thought would pay off big time. That has not been the case.
So far this season in 12 games played with the Magic, Bamba has averaged just 4.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks. Throughout his three-year career thus far, Bamba has averaged 5.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks. Those numbers haven’t gotten the job done.
However, the Lakers are going to look for a cheap option to hep their front-court. They don’t need to overpay to bring in a star. Bamba could be exactly the kind of fit that takes them to the next level.
At just 22 years old, Bamba still has plenty of time to figure things out. He still has the same raw athletic ability that he came into the NBA with. Perhaps playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis would bring out the best in him.
It seems likely that the Magic would be open to trading Mo Bamba. He has not panned out and is not viewed as a key part of the future in Orlando.
No one knows for sure whether the Magic would deal him or whether the Lakers would be interested. But, it’s something very interesting to think about. This trade could be a perfect fit for both teams and Bamba.
Bleacher Report certainly thinks Bamba would be a good target for the Lakers at the trade deadline. They named him a potential trade target for Los Angeles.
Expect to hear quite a few rumors in the coming weeks. The Lakers could stand pat at the trade deadline, but making a play to acquire Mo Bamba would make a lot of sense and would not cost a ton in return.
