Boston Celtics Receive: G Lou Williams, G Luke Kennard

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: G Marcus Smart, BOS 2022 2nd Round Pick

Over the years, when you look at the teams that have won championships, they have all had great benches and key role players they can depend on to hit big shots outside of their superstars. This Celtics team literally has no reliable players outside of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, which is why the Celtics are going to fail to reach the NBA Finals once again this year unless they make a big move at the NBA trade deadline.

Trading away Marcus Smart would certainly be a big move, but getting Lou Williams and Luke Kennard in exchange for their feisty guard could make a lot of sense. Williams is the best bench player of all-time and Kennard is a high-level three-point shooting threat.

Boston’s backcourt as a whole is really weak, which is why both of these guys make a lot of sense for depth. They could fill voids in the Celtics’ second-unit and also be great complementary players for this team’s “Big 3.” More of a scoring punch in addition to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown would go a long way.

For Los Angeles, they are a very defensive-oriented team and are always looking to add experienced talent, which is why Marcus Smart would be a great fit. They have some problems in their backcourt with Lou Williams not being a factor defensively and Patrick Beverley only being a key factor on defense.

With Marcus Smart’s ability to be a great two-way player, he could be the perfect guard to put next to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in order to compete with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

Overall, this trade is not as crazy as it may sound and both teams could make out pretty well from it. With that being said, let’s take a closer look as to why this trade makes sense for both the Celtics and the Clippers.
