Add A Veteran Talent On The Wing
Last season before the NBA trade deadline, the Miami Heat added Andre Iguodala and Jae Crowder on the wing. Both guys made huge impacts come playoff time, especially Crowder, who emerged as a big time three-point threat and perfect complimentary player next to Jimmy Butler on the wing.
This offseason, Crowder opted to sign with the Phoenix Suns, leaving Andre Iguodala and Duncan Robinson as the only two legit wing players for Miami. Iguodala has not been that productive this year for the Heat and with them not having many other options other than guard, Miami could really benefit from adding a low-cost veteran wing.
Luckily for the Heat, there are plenty of options around the league that could be intriguing to them for wing depth. Guys like Wayne Ellington, Ben McLemore and Reggie Bullock are all established, veteran wings that could be traded for the right price and all three guys would fit the Heat’s perimeter-oriented style of play.
With Jimmy Butler healthy, the Heat have nothing to worry about, but he has only played in 8 games this year due to health and safety protocols, as well as a lingering ankle issue. Getting one more veteran wing player not only gives the Heat “insurance” in-case Butler was to get hurt again, but gives them even more bench depth.
Having a strong bench is the foundation for any championship team and if the Miami Heat are to make it back to the NBA Finals this season, it will be because of their overall depth and ability to get production from 8-9 different players, much like last season.
