Look To Add Another Reliable Frontcourt Option

After Bam Adebayo went down with a shoulder injury last year in the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat really struggled to find frontcourt production, which ultimately led to their demise. In the offseason, Miami made it a priority to go out and add depth in the frontcourt, which is why they did not trade away Kelly Olynyk and why they drafted Precious Achiuwa 20th overall.

The rookie has been a fantastic “plug-and-play” guy for them this year and when Bam Adebayo missed some games due to COVID-19 protocols, Achiuwa really stepped up for the Heat. In two games against the 76ers without Bam in January, the rookie averaged 13.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and shot 68.8% from the floor.

With Achiuwa emerging as a reliable big man for the Heat and Kelly Olynyk being a big man three-point threat, they could still utilize another reliable shot-blocker or rebounder behind Bam Adebayo.

You can never have too much depth in today’s NBA and given the injury problems the Heat have had through the years, it would be smart for them to look and add a veteran or more established big man with a small price tag.

Guys like JaVale McGee, Mike Muscala, Khem Birch and Enes Kanter are all intriguing names that the Heat could potentially add to their roster for depth behind Bam Adebayo. Adding another reliable frontcourt option could really ease things for the Heat not only in their second-unit, but for guys like Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo who carry a lot of the scoring load for the Heat.
