LaMarcus Aldridge could be a sneaky good trade target for Mavericks

After missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 season, the San Antonio Spurs have some major decisions to make as an organization. Both LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan are set to be free agents at the conclusion of the 2020-21 NBA Season and if the Spurs are going to move on from their aging veterans and rebuild their roster a little bit, then they need to find trade partners for these two to get some draft assets and young talent out of it.

Both LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan can still play at a high-level and should be viewed as valuable veterans around the NBA. As a result, the Spurs could get a valuable package of draft picks and young talent in exchange for Aldridge.

The 35-year old forward has been one of the most reliable players at the power-forward position in NBA history and is one of the best mid-range players in the NBA. He has not averaged less than 17.0 points per game since his rookie season in 2006-07 and has not missed many games over the years.

He did suffer an injury last season that kept him out for the back-half of the year, but has been extremely durable over the course of his 14-year career. Plenty of championship contenders would likely see if there is a way for them to acquire LaMarcus Aldridge and from the Spurs point of view, it would be beneficial long-term to move on from him.

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that has really struggled to live up to the hype this year and most of their problems stem from their frontcourt. Dallas could really benefit from adding another high-level, veteran talent like LaMarcus Aldridge from the Spurs, so could they look to trade for him at this season’s NBA trade deadline?

Let’s take a look at three reasons why the Dallas Mavericks should pull the trigger and pursue a trade for Spurs’ big man LaMarcus Aldridge.
