Why This Trade Would Benefit The Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks gave the Los Angeles Clippers all they could handle a season ago in the playoffs at the NBA Bubble. Early on in 2020-21, the Mavericks have struggled on the defensive end while their perimeter shooting has completely fallen off a cliff.
Dallas is allowing 113.6 opponent points per game and that’s near the bottom of the NBA. Kristaps Porzingis was supposed to raise the floor of the unit with his rim protection and impact out in space but has taken a step back in these areas as he looks more stiff defending out in space.
The Mavericks need some depth. Outside of their top three, with Tim Hardaway Jr. being the third, the Mavericks are thin. They have five players averaging double-figure points per game and one of them is Jalen Brunson, who comes off the bench.
Dallas could use some more firepower in the rotation. This is where Andrew Wiggins and James Wiseman would help right away. They are durable players who have played valuable minutes for the Golden State Warriors this season.
Luka Doncic could use some more role players within the lineup. The first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves is another valuable commodity because of the spot it might land, whether it conveys in the NBA Draft in 2021 or 2022.
When it comes to the Western Conference, teams will have to put multiple NBA stars together or build incredible depth to contend. The Mavericks could be looking at a quick retool of the roster after one season in the playoffs.
