Why the Los Angeles Clippers could go all-out to trade for Eric Bledsoe

Need More Scoring Outside Of Kawhi Leonard & Paul George

We briefly touched on it before, but outside of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, there is nobody on this Clippers roster that is very threatening on the offensive end of the court. Serge Ibaka, Marcus Morris, Lou Williams and Nicolas Batum are all averaging double-digit scoring numbers this season, but if we are being realistic, none of these four games really scare any team.

Could they go off and score 15+ points on any given night? Sure, they could, but they will do that in maybe 6 games all year. All of these guys are nothing more than key rotation guys and role players.

The Clippers cannot lean on their veteran role players to be the “third reliable scoring option” combined for them, which is why they need to acquire Eric Bledsoe. This is Bledsoe’s 11th season in the NBA and over the last several seasons, he has really come into his own as a complimentary scorer.

He is similar to the Clippers current role players in the sense that he could go for 15-20 points on any given night, but what separates Bledsoe from the other role players on this current roster is that he is an overall playmaker and can contribute for 30+ minutes per night.

Morris, Williams, Ibaka and Batum are not 30+ minute guys anymore at this point in their respective careers and as a result, they are nothing more than key contributors. Eric Bledsoe is not a key contributor, he is a vital player that would be the third most important player on this Clippers roster.

The difference between him compared to the likes of Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams in the backcourt is instead of focusing on one aspect of the floor, Bledsoe is an overall great point guard and can pull his weight on both offense and defense. Offensively though, Eric Bledsoe can step up and be that third scoring option the Clippers need to challenge the best of the best in the NBA.
