Clippers Need To Fix The Problems In Backcourt
So far this season, the Clippers’ backcourt trio of Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams and Reggie Jackson is combining for just under 23% of the team’s total scoring per game. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are combining for about 44% of the team’s total scoring per game.
This team desperately needs to get more production from their backcourt if they are to contend with the Lakers for a chance to go to the NBA Finals this season, which is why adding Eric Bledsoe would be a smart move for this organization before the NBA trade deadline.
Over the last few seasons, Eric Bledsoe was the starting point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks and was a great complimentary player next to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. He was the third best scorer on the Bucks over the years and with the Clippers, he could be the same type of facilitator and scorer for the superstars around him.
Bledsoe is currently the Pelicans third best scorer this season and is currently shooting a career high 40.7% from three-point range. His ability to play with the ball in his hands or off-the-ball as a catch-and-shoot threat is what makes him a valuable trade target for not just the Clippers, but any team looking to add guard depth.
The addition of the veteran guard would provide the Clippers with immediate scoring and help take a lot of pressure off of both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Both of these superstars will still have to be high-level players and give it their all throughout the season or Los Angeles, but they would not have to have the mindset that they need to make every single play for this team.
Eric Bledsoe is more than capable of being a reliable scoring option and can affect the games more ways than one. Whether it is offense or defense, Bledsoe can find ways to contribute to his team and could be the third scoring option the Los Angeles Clippers so desperately need.
