Why the Nuggets could go all-out to trade for Aaron Gordon

Nuggets’ Strength Is Their Frontcourt

The saying “don’t fix what ain’t broke” can accurately describe Denver’s frontcourt, as that is the strength of their team, but they could improve it. Instead of “fixing” the frontcourt, why not add even more talent to it and solidify their froncourt as one of the best in the entire NBA?

Aaron Gordon stands about 6’8” and has been utilized by the Orlando Magic as a wing and a low-post player. We will touch upon his versatility to play numerous positions in a little bit, but from a frontcourt perspective, Gordon could really take a lot of stress off of both JaMychal Green and Paul Millsap.

Both veterans, especially Millsap, are on the back-half of their careers and are not the athletic contributors they once were. This is exactly why sacrificing some minutes to add a guy like Aaron Gordon makes a lot of sense, especially if Denver wants to have any real chance to compete for a title in the Western Conference.

Gordon is a proven scorer in the post and is averaging about 13.8 points per game this season while shooting 42.7% from the floor. As a result of the skill they have in their frontcourt, Denver currently ranks 12th in rebounding, but they could potentially vault into the Top-5 in the NBA with Aaron Gordon on their roster.

A lot of the Nuggets offensive revolves around Nikola Jokic passing from the top of the key or from the low-post. Almost every play they run goes through him, which is why adding another frontcourt option could really take a lot of stress off of Nikola Jokic. He currently leads the Nuggets in turnovers per game and ranks 9th in the NBA in this category as well.

It is expected that Nikola Jokic would rank near the top of the NBA list in turnover per game because of how many times per game he has the ball in his hands, but by adding another reliable frontcourt player, Denver could cut down on a lot of their careless turnovers in large part thanks to Jokic.

It is not as much of “fixing” their frontcourt as it is “bolstering” it and improving it with the addition of Gordon. You can never have too many reliable players on your roster and this would be a great addition for the Nuggets.
