Why the Mavericks could go all-out to trade for Buddy Hield

Dallas Mavericks Lack A Reliable Third Scoring Option

When you look at the Dallas Mavericks as a whole, it is very clear to see that this team doesn’t really have any weapons. Sure, Luka Doncic is one of the most versatile talents in the entire NBA and Kristaps Porzingis is a former All-Star level player, but they are an extremely easy team to defend because all you have to do is let them shoot!

Keeping this team out of the paint is all that needs to be done to beat them because they are one of the worst scoring teams in the league! They cannot score from the perimeter to save their lives this year and they are one of the worst scoring teams when taking shots outside of the paint.

Together, Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are combining for 47.8 points per game this season, but finding offensive production outside of these two this year has been very hard for Dallas. Tim Hardaway Jr. is currently this team’s third leading scorer at 17.3 points per game, but this team has no reliable third scoring option outside of their two young stars.

This is one of the main reasons why adding Buddy Hield matters so much for the Mavericks and why this would be a great move for them, even if they would have to trade away Hardaway Jr. in the process.

While he is averaging just 15.9 points per game this year with the Kings, Buddy Hield is a terrific offensive talent and has been ever since he was at Oklahoma in college. Hield can flat out score the basketball and is a threat to shoot the ball as soon as he crosses the half-court line.

With Luka Doncic being one of the best facilitators and floor generals in the NBA, he would have no problem finding Buddy Hield all over the court and the Mavericks could run plenty of off-the-ball screens for Hield to relocate and knock down open shots from the perimeter. They could do that now with Tim Hardaway Jr. but he is not nearly as talented offensively as Hield.

The addition of Hield gives the Mavericks that third reliable scoring option they so desperately need and when Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are out of the game, Hield could end up improving his overall offensive game and become more than just a three-point specialist.
