Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Cleveland Cavaliers
With Jarrett Allen playing really well and other guys like Taurean Prince, Larry Nance Jr. and JaVale McGee, somebody is going to have to be traded before the trade deadline and with Drummond’s value being at an all-time high and the fact that he is on an expiring contract, it makes a lot of sense for Cleveland to trade him now.
Getting a key player in Norman Powell and a first-round pick for Drummond is a complete “180” from what they traded away in order to acquire the big man. They would be getting great value for Drummond in this trade, which is why it makes a ton of sense for the Cavs.
Norman Powell can play right away and make a huge impact next to the young backcourt of “Sexland” in Cleveland. Powell started the season coming off-the-bench for the Raptors, but he has quickly solidified himself as a starter in this league due to O.G. Aunoby being out with an injury.
In his last 7 games, Powell is averaging 22.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and is shooting 49.3% from the floor, 42.1% from three-point range. In fact, the 27-year old wing has scored 20+ points in six of his last seven contests.
Not only has he emerged as a scorer, but Norman Powell is a great athlete who could be the perfect wing player in Cleveland, a team that is young and full of athletes. Powell’s abilities to play above the rim and attack his opponents makes him a very versatile wing and a valuable asset for any team in the league.
Cleveland would be getting a great complimentary player next to their young talent in this trade, but the best part is that they would be getting a first-round pick. Believe it or not, the Cavaliers are in the playoff hunt currently and could be very much in the thick of things come the final month of the season.
With the future very bright for the young stars in Cleveland and plenty of draft capital moving forward, trading Drummond and getting more future value could set this organization up for a ton of success for many years to come.
