Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs missed out on the postseason for the first time in 22 years after their time in the NBA Bubble. This means that the team is heading in a different direction and that direction is towards players like Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson going forward.
The veterans on their team are owed a ton of money this season and will be on the move at the NBA trade deadlines. This would do two things for them. First, this will leave them a nice return for two players who still have a bit left in the tank. Both LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan would benefit from playing on contending teams.
The Spurs would part with a first-round pick since there is far more stability with Draymond Green’s contract status than that of DeMar DeRozan. Having an elite defender at the four spot alongside an intriguing overall unit on that end would go a long way.
This is a chance for Gregg Popovich to get a new group of players to coach and lead. San Antonio will be back sooner than later because of their front office and coach on the sideline.
