Milwaukee Bucks Receive: G JJ Redick
New Orleans Pelicans Receive: G DJ Augustin, G Pat Connaughton, MIL 2022 2nd Round Pick
If the Bucks were to make this trade, it could not occur until after Feb. 23 since both Augustin and Connaughton both signed contracts with Milwaukee this past offseason. However, both guys have not played much of a role with the Bucks this year.
They are both seeing under 20 minutes per game on the court and neither player has started a game for the Bucks this year. Not to mention, they have not really made a difference for Milwaukee when they are on the court.
Both Augustin and Connaughton have not been efficient this year and with the chance to add Redick at the cost of these two guys, the Bucks would probably be very interested in this trade. For the Pelicans, they are looking to make it back to the playoffs and the one thing they could use is depth.
While both guys have struggled with the Bucks, in a new city with new teammates, they could be more productive. There is definitely less pressure in New Orleans than there is in Milwaukee right now and with guys like Ingram and Williamson, both DJ Augustin and Pat Connaughton could ease their way into the rotation.
For the Bucks, getting JJ Redick gives them one of the all-time best three-point shooters and someone who could replicate the role Kyle Korver had last year. Redick has struggled early on this year finding his rhythm and knocking down shots, but given how good Milwaukee is at shooting three-point shots this year, he would be able to figure things out come playoff time.
While there are a lot of teams reportedly trying to get in on the “JJ Redick sweepstakes,” his value is not really high right now and this trade is one of the better ones the Pelicans could probably find for the veteran guard. He is on an expiring contract and has been struggling this year, which has decreased his overall value on the open market.
With that being said, let’s take a closer look as to why the Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans would want to make this trade.
