Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves need a bit of direction. Players like Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell have been featured in NBA trade rumors if the front office decides to just blow it up and start over. Many teams would be interested in such talents if the opportunities presented itself to pull off a trade.
Anthony Edwards is a nice young prospect who looks like he could have a high ceiling in the league. Minnesota has a ton of work to do and this could be the move that gets the ball rolling. He has many years to develop given he’s only 19-years-old and adding pieces around him makes the most sense.
Evan Fournier has plenty of experience playing the three spot and is on an expiring contract. The Timberwolves could feature him in an off-the-bench role to provide needed perimeter shooting and shot creation. Meanwhile, Aaron Gordon could provide defensive versatility and athleticism at the four spot.
Cole Anthony has shown some intriguing signs of potential and can be a long-term fit alongside Anthony Edwards. When factoring in the other pieces in this trade, the Timberwolves could benefit from going this route by trading D’Angelo Russell.
It will be interesting to see what the Timberwolves end up doing at the NBA trade deadline. They have been a poor team for many years and it is time to flip the switch on that notion.
