Andre Drummond – Cleveland Cavaliers

After just acquiring Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince in the multi-team deal that sent James Harden to Brooklyn, the Cleveland Cavaliers now have an abundance of players in their frontcourt, making Andre Drummond a very real trade target for the Knicks.

Over the course of his career, Andre Drummond has averaged 13.8 rebounds/game and since 2015, has led the league in rebounds per game in four different seasons. Drummond is a low-post and more traditional big man who does not have an outside game, but he can still contribute to any team he is on and make a difference defensively.

If the Knicks are able to land Andre Drummond, it would be the best thing to happen to them since trading for Carmelo Anthony. Not only does Drummond’s arrival open the door for other superstar players wanting to come play in New York, but it would definitely put the Knicks in the playoff conversation. For a team that has not been to the playoffs since 2013, this would be a pretty big deal.

Perhaps the best part for Drummond about going to the Knicks is that he would not have to change his style of play. Unlike going to a championship contender with numerous All-Star players, Drummond could just flat out be himself on the Knicks and the double-double machine that he is.

He would join this organization and immediately be the best player on the roster. RJ Barrett and Julius Randle are great, young players who could complement Andre Drummond very well. Plus, pairing Drummond with Julius Randle in the frontcourt would be extremely dangerous for other teams, especially since Randle is having an NBA All-Star type of season.

Nobody really knows at this point what is going to happen with Drummond, as he is currently owed $28.7M this season, making it tough for any team to trade for him. There have been rumors about the Cavs reaching a potential buy-out agreement with Andre Drummond, but if that does happen, the Knicks would have a hard time trying to acquire him as other teams like the Celtics and Nets would be all over him.

In the sense of making a trade for him, the Knicks would likely have to pull the trigger for Drummond before this season’s trade deadline with him set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
