After missing the playoffs for the first time in 22 NBA seasons, many expected the San Antonio Spurs to rebuild this year and for the next few seasons, but that does not seem like the case with this organization. Through 20 games, San Antonio has the makings of being a playoff team in the Western Conference because of how many guys they have had step up this year.
With Derrick White out to begin the season due to a toe injury, guys like Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV have all stepped up into bigger roles and are putting together breakout seasons. Not to mention, veteran guard Patty Mills is having one of his best seasons of his career off-the-bench at 32 years old!
Fourth-year guard Dejounte Murray has also been a steady contributor for San Antonio, but once again, DeMar DeRozan is leading this team in scoring and is the anchor for their success. DeRozan came to San Antonio before the start of the 2018-19 season in a trade that sent Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors and has continued to be one of the top wings in the entire league.
Since joining the Spurs, DeRozan is averaging 21.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and is shooting 50% from the floor. His leadership abilities and pure offensive abilities have made him one of the better players on the trade market and given that he is in the final year of his contract, it seems likely that the Spurs could look to move the 31-year old forward.
He may not be the All-Star he once was, but could be like Kawhi Leonard was to Toronto in the sense of coming in and being the x-factor for a team’s chances at winning a title. With that being said, let’s take a look at four teams who could pursue a trade for Spurs star wing, DeMar DeRozan.
