Draymond Green has not been talked about much as a potential trade candidate over the last couple of years, but this year has been different. It has been reported that Green could be available and that the Golden State Warriors may be open to trades. If that is the case, the Dallas Mavericks could be a team to watch.
Mark Cuban and company have been looking to make a big move to add more talent alongside Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Green could be the ideal trade target.
One NBA executive, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that the Mavericks should be very interested in swinging a trade with the Warriors for Green.
“If the Warriors made Draymond (Green) available, there would be a robust market for him. The Mavericks are the perfect landing spot. He brings championship experience, elite defense, and passion. Dallas has been positioning themselves for a big move, and Green would be exactly what they need.”
Granted, this is not a report that the Mavericks are pursuing a trade for Green. However, it is a very good idea if the Warriors make Green available.
During the 2020-21 season thus far with the Warriors, Green has averaged 4.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game to go along with 1.2 steals. His offensive numbers have been very disappointing. Many believe that Green has not been a good offensive player throughout his entire career.
Despite the lack of offensive production from Draymond Green, he is still the kind of player that championship contenders need. He is a shutdown defender and brings infectious energy to the court.
Why would the Warriors trade Green? Quite simply, it would be a cost-cutting move. They need to re-tool around Stephen Curry and Green’s offense simply is a weakness that has hurt them.
It will be interesting to see what the trade deadline has in store. The Warriors may not make Green available, but if they do, the Mavericks should absolutely be in the market for his services.
