Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
Ricky Rubio serves little purpose in Minnesota at the moment. He is a player coming off the bench and playing a back-up roll. Minnesota has added young players along the perimeter and are headed in a completely different direction. It makes sense for them to get rid of some of their veterans as they continue their rebuild.
Anthony Edwards was selected first overall in the draft and is looking like the real deal early on. D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley currently lead the team in scoring and are getting it done in many ways.
When Karl-Anthony Towns returns, the team will have a huge piece back but they are still lacking what they need to compete. This deal will not get them closer to the playoffs but it will give them some assets that they could potentially use in more deals moving forward.
The NBA is a big chess game. It is all about acquiring assets and pushing the right buttons to rebuild quickly. That is what the Timberwolves are attempting to do with their current squad.
