3 intriguing trade targets for Minnesota Timberwolves to monitor

Since losing in the Western Conference Finals in 2004, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made the playoffs just once since then in 2018 and have made 13 NBA Draft lottery selections in that same time span. The Timberwolves have had just one winning season in the last decade and while there was some hope this offseason that things would be changing for the better, things look a lot unchanged with Minnesota.

The Timberwolves acquired All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell at last season’s trade deadline and after drafting Anthony Edwards No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, there was a lot of hype surrounding this team, but they have continued to be one of the worst teams in the league. They are a very young team, as their average age is just 23.4 years old, which is one of the reasons they have struggled early on.

They are currently 4-13 and with their star player in Karl-Anthony Towns out due to testing positive for COVID-19, this team has little to no firepower. D’Angelo Russell is also dealing with a lingering quad issue, which does not help the cause either.

The one bright spot for Minnesota this year has been the emergence of 24-year old Malik Beasley. After being traded to the T-Wolves last season from Denver, Beasley has started the year very strong, averaging 19.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and shooting 38.1% from three-point range.

Fully healthy, this team has a chance to start winning some games, but they are still a long way away from contending for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. There are still many holes to fill on this roster and with not much cap space, the options for the Timberwolves to build this team into a legit threat are limited.

With that being said, let’s take a look at three intriguing future trade targets for the Minnesota Timberwolves to keep an eye on not just this year, but heading into next offseason and next season.
