Why The Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
There were NBA trade rumors in the offseason of Karl-Anthony Towns being unhappy with the current situation with the Minnesota Timberwolves. If this is true, it makes sense for the Timberwolves to trade a disgruntled player right away. They are not a team ready to win and need to stock up on assets and draft picks.
Minnesota has made the playoffs just one time since drafting Towns in 2015. They have reached the bottom of the conference and show no signs of turning it around anytime soon. They landed the No. 1 pick in the draft this year and selected Anthony Edwards. This is something they will need to do for the upcoming seasons.
Minnesota will be able to rebuild through the draft and it could be sped up if they were given more picks in a trade. Towns as a player that would certainly land them draft capital for the upcoming years.
We saw this happen in Philadelphia. Teams sometimes have to wait and build through the draft and hope that their lottery picks work out. Edwards has looked solid and now it is time to build around the backcourt in Minnesota.
