Adding Kevin Love to a frontcourt consisting of Clint Capela, John Collins and rookie Onyeka Okongwu would be a perfect fit for the Hawks, the only question is how they would free up the cap space to get him.

While they would probably be fine with giving up Tony Snell, since he is owed $12.1M this season, it is the young players the Hawks would have to give up that may be concerning. Guys like Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter and Kevin Huerter would all be options to be traded because of their contracts, but they are all impact players for the Hawks this year.

Love has only played in two games this season for the Cavs due to a lingering calf issue, which is also a cause of concern for the Hawks. They are already dealing with veteran players with injuries, so why would they want to add another injury-prone veteran?

Well, when Love is healthy, he is a high-impact player, and given his perimeter-scoring abilities, he could be a perfect fit in Atlanta’s frontcourt. Not only can Kevin Love be a high-volume scorer at the power-forward positions for the Hawks, but he was an NBA All-Star not too long ago. In back-to-back seasons from 2016-18, Love was named an All-Star and brings a lot to the table in terms of offensive efficiency.

Over the course of his career, Kevin Love has averaged 18.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, and has shot 47% from three-point range. He is exactly the type of complementary big man this team needs with Clint Capela and John Collins and he could be a huge impact player for them late in the season.

Acquiring Kevin Love would definitely improve the Hawks overall, especially if he is healthy, the only big question is if they would be willing to part with the young talent they have and some draft picks to bring him and his massive contract to Atlanta.

Most likely, the Hawks would opt not to trade away any of their young talents for a veteran guy like Kevin Love, but he would fit their system perfectly. It would be another piece to provide needed veteran help for Trae Young.
