Why This Trade Would Benefit The Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors have dropped off a bit since they were hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy led by Kawhi Leonard. They were near the top of the Eastern Conference once again last season and that was the expectation coming into the year. So far, those expectations have not come to fruition but there is still time to turn it around.
The Raptors made it clear that Fred VanVleet will be the leader moving forward in the backcourt. This season, he is scoring 19.4 points and 6.4 assists per contest. VanVleet and Pascal Siakam are the new centerpiece players in Toronto.
Kyle Lowry is still playing at a high level but with his current age, the Raptors could decide to send him away if they get back the right return. This would be a difficult move to make given his history with the franchise but it is one that would get them some more depth moving forward behind their stars.
The Raptors took a big hit when two of their bigs left in free agency. This is a chance to look even further into the future with a big-splash trade. The front office of the Raptors could be looking to keep them relevant for years to come.
