New York Knicks
If the Knicks are able to land Andre Drummond, it would be the best thing to happen to them since trading for Carmelo Anthony. Not only does Drummond’s arrival open the door for other superstar players wanting to come play in New York, but it would definitely put the Knicks in the playoff conversation. For a team that has not been to the playoffs since 2013, this would be a pretty big deal.
Pairing Drummond with Julius Randle in the frontcourt would be extremely dangerous for other teams, especially since Randle is having an NBA All-Star type of season. Having two NBA All-Star talents in the frontcourt could be very beneficial for the Knicks, especially since they would be able to ease Obi Toppin into the rotation.
Mitchell Robinson has been a solid young big man for the Knicks, but he is still a very unpolished player. Is he a shot blocker? Is he an offensive rebounder? Can he score every trip down the floor?
These are all legit questions about Mitchell Robinson’s game and he has been very inconsistent of late. With an established big man like Andre Drummond, Robinson would not just learn a lot from the veteran center, but be able to be an impact player in the second-unit for the Knicks.
If the Knicks are to bring in NBA All-Star levels talents via free agency and actually contend in the East once again, then they need to be willing to make a big move this season and acquiring Andre Drummond would be that move. If this opportunity comes their way, they have to do everything they can to make sure Andre Drummond is suiting up for them and stepping out on the court in Madison Square Garden for the foreseeable future.
