Why This Trade Would Benefit The Charlotte Hornets
LaMarcus Aldridge is not the player he once was but at 35-years old, he is still a viable option down low, as he’s shown with the Spurs. In eight games this season, Aldridge is averaging 14.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. His shooting numbers are low at just 45.6% from the field and 31.0% from three-point range.
This would still be a needed upgrade for the Charlotte Hornets. Cody Zeller is in the final year of his deal bringing him back doesn’t make sense. There is a need for a more dynamic option and Zeller doesn’t provide that type of skill-set to achieve such results.
The Hornets made it clear that they wanted to solidify their backcourt and were able to do so through the draft and free agency. This includes Hayward, who is scoring 24.1 points per game and shooting 51.5% from the field and 43.5% from the three-point line.
Charlotte is a very top-heavy lineup at the moment. This trade would balance their team on both ends of the floor. The Hornets want to return to relevance as soon as possible. This means improving in the frontcourt immediately. Aldridge is the perfect veteran player who could help them this season and beyond.
