Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Houston Rockets
Victor Oladipo has missed a lot of games over the last two seasons due to a ruptured quadriceps tendon, but this season, he looks fully healthy out there on the court and looks like the NBA All-Star he once was not too long ago. If Oladipo can remain healthy, he could be a key player for Houston moving forward, but he is on an expiring contract and multiple teams reportedly are still interested in trading for him.
If the Rockets were to make a move and trade away Victor Oladipo, they would definitely want some young talent in return, the only question is whether or not they would be willing to accept no draft picks from the Heat, like in this trade scenario outlined above.
Getting Kendrick Nunn and rookie Precious Achiuwa is like getting two first-round picks and Kelly Olynyk is an experienced, relatively young player who can still have an impact off the bench. Olynyk’s ability to knock down shots from the perimeter and be an aggressive big man makes him a valuable asset for any team.
The future in Houston right now is very much “up-in-the-air” at this point as nobody knows what is going to happen with the Rockets. Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker are two veteran guys that are likely to be dealt near the trade deadline and the only two guys we know Houston wants to move forward with are John Wall and breakout star Christian Wood.
Everyone else on this roster is expendable and available for the right price, which is why this trade makes a lot of sense for the Rockets. The two things this organization needs right now are draft picks and young talent.
By making this trade with the Heat, they get two very strong young talents and a proven big man, which could set them up for a lot of future success. Not to mention, this trade could speed up the rebuild process in Houston.
Whether it is this trade or a different trade, the best spot for the Rockets to get the most value for Victor Oladipo is the Miami Heat, as they have young talent and draft assets to be able to put together an irresistible trade package for Oladipo. The only question that remains is if Houston actually wants to keep the former NBA All-Star guard long-term.
