Toronto Raptors Receive: F Blake Griffin, G Wayne Ellington, DET 2023 1st Round Pick, DET 2026 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)
Detroit Pistons Receive: G Kyle Lowry, F O.G. Anunoby
While he only played in 18 games for the Detroit Pistons last season due to a lingering knee issue that he had surgically fixed, Blake Griffin still possesses NBA All-Star talent and could be an interesting player that winds up hitting the trade market at some point during the 2020-21 NBA season.
During the 2018-19 NBA season, in which Griffin played 75 games, he averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and shot 46.2% from the floor, 36.2% from three-point range. Given that his recent full season resulted in him being an All-Star, the Raptors could utilize Griffin’s talents in their frontcourt, which has taken a hit this season due to Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka moving on.
He is not the player he once was, especially after his recent knee injuries, but he is still more than capable of being one of the top players on any team and would be a great mentor to some of the young players on the Raptors, as could Wayne Ellington.
Now in his 12th season in the league, Wayne Ellington is still a reliable perimeter threat and offensive-minded player. Over the course of his career, he has shot 37.9% from three-point range and could fit in nicely off-the-bench for the Raptors.
O.G. Anunoby is in his fourth season in the NBA with the Raptors and is having the best year of his career. The Raptors would probably want to keep Anunoby at all costs due to his versatility and athleticism, but for the sake of this trade package, we will keep him included.
With that being said, let’s take a closer look as to why this trade would make sense for both the Detroit Pistons and the Toronto Raptors.
