Target No. 3 – Norman Powell
Norman Powell is the guy not talked about enough on the Raptors and could have a huge impact on the Pacers if Indiana was able to pull off a trade to land him. The 27-year old wing is now in his sixth season in the NBA and after a breakout season last year, alo to expectations were placed on Powell this year.
Early on in the year, Norman Powell has struggled coming off-the-bench for the Raptors and was just shooting 30.6% from the floor through the Raptors first four games of the year. Now, after getting going a little bit, Powell looks like the impact player he was last season and is starting to make a big difference for Toronto.
He has scored in double figures in all but two games so far in January and as a result, has things trending upwards for the Raptors. As a team, the Raptors struggled to get off to a fast start, but are finally starting to turn things around.
With Caris LeVert and T.J. Warren both being sidelined indefinitely, Indiana could use some depth on the wing and definitely utilize an athletic talent like Norman Powell. Edmond Sumner, Justin Holiday and Doug McDermott have picked up some of the slack with the Pacers’ stars being out, but ultimately, if this team is going to contend, they are going to need a guy coming off the bench that they feel can make a huge impact for them.
Norman Powell is this type of player and entering the year, was definitely a dark-horse for the Sixth-Man of the Year award. While he may not be in the running for the award, he can still be the best bench player for the Pacers and a guy that helps elevate their second-unit.
Given his athleticism and scoring abilities, Norman Powell is definitely a guy to keep an eye on if you are a Pacers fan. Bringing him to Indiana could be tough, as they would likely have to trade some draft assets and a key role player, but trading for Powell definitely elevates this Pacers offense.
