Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Miles Bridges, BRK 2021 2nd Round Pick (via CHA), LAC 2021 2nd Round Pick (via CHA), CHA 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-3 Protected)

Charlotte Hornets Receive: F John Collins

After missing the whole month of November last season with an injury, John Collins has entered the 2020-21 NBA season fully healthy and ready to make a huge impact with the Hawks. Last season, Collins had his best statistical season of his career, averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and shooting 58.3% from the floor, 40.1% from three-point range in 41 games.

He has solidified himself as one of the most versatile power forwards in the entire NBA and whether it is in the low-post or on the perimeter, John Collins can score from anywhere on the court. Given Charlotte’s problems with their frontcourt, Collins could join this team and have an immediate impact on making them a legit playoff team in the Eastern Conference.

While they do have P.J. Washington, him and Collins could likely line up in the frontcourt next to each other and when he is healthy, Charlotte could probably bring Cody Zeller into the game off-the-bench.

While he has had his struggles early on in his career, Miles Bridges has really made an impact for the Charlotte Hornets this season as a role player off-the-bench and with his athletic abilities, has a lot of potential to be a special player moving forward. Bridges can play either on the wing or in the low-post, giving the Hawks another “positionless” athlete to put on the court around Trae Young.

The three NBA Draft picks the Hornets would be sent to Atlanta are also important for the Hawks’ future. Having three second-round picks for the 2021 NBA Draft gives the Hawks the ability to trade for an impactful role player at the trade deadline this season, or even trade up for a first-round pick on draft night next offseason.

For a young team looking to win now, having leverage in trades when it comes to draft picks is extremely important and could be what the Hawks need to pull off a big trade near the trade deadline, solidifying them as a playoff team in the Eastern Conference.

With that being said, let’s take a closer look as to why the Hawks and the Hornets would and should make this deal.
