The San Antonio Spurs are in a position to clean house a bit in regards to their veteran players. This means DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge could be on the move prior to the NBA trade deadline. If San Antonio is going to part ways with their big man, the Miami Heat could be potential trade partners.
Miami has expressed interest in adding another big-name player to the roster moving forward. The list became shorter when Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a five-year, supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was the biggest name linked to the team next offseason but that is now off the table.
The Heat has Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo leading the way so they could look for a smaller market player. Aldridge used to be one of the best in the NBA but is 35-years old now.
With the current situation in San Antonio, Aldridge does not fit into the future plan. The Spurs are looking to return to the postseason after a one-year hiatus last season. This snapped a streak of 22 straight playoff appearances. The Spurs have a franchise point guard in Dejounte Murray, who will lead the way during the quick rebuild. This is a move to point the Spurs in the direction of getting younger.
Both Aldridge and DeRozan could be on the move sooner rather than later. Here is what a potential deal could look like that would send Aldridge to the Heat.
