The Boston Celtics have been a win-now team for many years. They showed a weakness down low during the postseason in Orlando last year. They did not make many improvements to that unit during the offseason so they could look for a trade prior to the NBA trade deadline. Could Cleveland Cavaliers star Andre Drummond be an option?
The Celtics held three first-round picks in the NBA Draft, which many thought they would use to move up or land a big man in a trade. Neither one happened and they settled for Tristan Thompson in free agency. Both Thompson and Daniel Theis have been underwhelming this season which could push Boston toward a deal for a veteran big man. Andre Drummond is a name that would fit in perfectly in Boston.
Drummond and Kevin Love are two veteran players in the frontcourt in Cleveland. They do not seem to fit into the plan moving forward for the Cavaliers. This is a team with talent in the backcourt led by Collin Sexton and Darius Garland.
Extension talks took place with Drummond prior to the shut down but nothing has happened since then. Love has been the hot name in NBA trade rumors but at the end of the day, it could be Drummond who is on the move.
This would help the Celtics get to the championship level where they want to be. Let’s take a look at what it might take to land one of the best bigs in the game in Boston this season.
