Why This Trade Would Benefit The Cleveland Cavaliers
If the Cleveland Cavaliers does not extend Andre Drummond then he must be sent away in a trade. Otherwise, he is eligible to leave in free agency during the offseason and the team will get nothing for him. At 27-years old, Drummond clearly has many good years ahead of him but the decision comes down to which direction Cleveland is headed.
The Cavaliers acquired Drummond prior to the NBA shut down last season. This means they were infatuated about something involving Drummond. In a lot of ways, Love seems like the biggest trade asset but Drummond could be the one they decide to part ways with.
Drummond’s demands during negotiations of a contract might be too much to handle for Cleveland. They are still rebuilding and have some pieces in the backcourt to rely on and Jarrett Allen makes more sense to commit to long-term. This is an opportunity for the team to continue to build assets and save some money for other players.
The Cavaliers have been in rebuild mode since LeBron James left for Los Angeles. The front office has some decisions to make regarding the roster and it will be interesting to see which direction they go in moving forward.
