Why This Trade Would Benefit The Dallas Mavericks
If the Dallas Mavericks give up Dwight Powell and James Johnson to get an elite big man, this would be an incredible deal. Andre Drummond is making $28.7 million this season in the final year of his deal. If Dallas makes this move, he should be signed to an extension. This would help in many ways.
First, the Mavericks would be able to hang onto Tim Hardaway Jr. He is one of their top trade pieces and could be used in another deal, if necessary. Porzingis has had trouble staying on the floor. Drummond would bring some stability to the frontcourt. He would also bring a different dynamic.
Kristaps Porzingis is more of a stretch-four while Andre Drummond is a back to the basket center who rebounds extremely well on both ends. The Western Conference is extremely tough this season and it is only getting tougher. The Mavericks will need to continue to add players if they want to climb up the standings.
The Mavericks are one of the most entertaining teams in the NBA because of Luka Doncic. When Porzingis is playing, the team is taken to a different level and can continue their rise with a veteran presence like Drummond.
