Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are getting the better return right away in this trade. That is the main benefit. Tom Thibodeau has this team playing well early on but everyone knows they are not playoff contenders with their current roster. If they want to turn into NBA postseason contenders, they could choose to improve the roster.

The Knicks were linked to names like Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul during the offseason because of their willingness to take on an undesirable contract. They ended up passing on both which means they could go in a different direction.

The Magic could be trade partners because of the players available. New York could use some help at the point guard position but Aaron Gordon and Evan Fourier would give them life on the perimeter. Terrance Ross is a bench piece who would give them some much-needed depth.

Keeping Julius Randle and RJ Barrett around is something that would benefit the Knicks greatly. Mitchell Robinson is another piece that would be able to stay on the roster. New York has first-round picks stashed up from the Kristaps Porzingis trade that they could use here.
