Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Washington Wizards
Even though they just traded for Russell Westbrook in the offseason, the Washington Wizards have not been as successful as they had hoped so far this season and he may not be the guy they thought he was going to be for them. He is nearly averaging a triple-double this season, but Washington is 2-8 to begin the year and in last place in the East.
The main reason Washington traded for Westbrook was to finally make it back to the playoffs and if he cannot get the job done for them next to Bradley Beal, then it would be best for this organization to look elsewhere, especially while Westbrook still has value.
A Bradley Beal-CJ McCollum backcourt would be very dangerous as both guys are lethal three-point shooters and all together, great 3-level scorers. Both guys can explode for big games on any given night and are both great teammates.
With Bradley Beal in the prime of his career and with CJ McCollum also in the prime of his career, this could end up being one of the best duos in the entire NBA because of how great these two guys are offensively. Together, both guys could go for 60+ points per night, giving the Wizards one of the best offenses in the league.
Not to mention, Washington would be getting Robert Covington, who has proven to be an offensive weapon over the years. He is now in his 8th season in the NBA and has averaged 12.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and has shot 35.5% from deep over the course of his career.
Washington needs all the help they can get on the offensive end of the court and getting another key role player in Covington could be very useful in their efforts to make it back to the playoffs. This trade could be the reason the Wizards turn into a legit threat in the Eastern Conference.
