Why This Trade Makes Sense For The New Orleans Pelicans
While the New Orleans Pelicans are a legit playoff team without Kemba Walker, they could actually be a legit championship contender with him healthy and on their team. Acquiring Kemba gives New Orleans three NBA All-Star caliber players and three reliable weapons on the offensive end of the court.
Not to mention, pairing Kemba up with Zion and Ingram gives the Pelicans a true floor general that would have no problem finding his open teammates. He is the type of guy who can make everyone around him better, which could be very valuable for New Orleans as they have struggled offensively this year.
While they are one of the better defensive teams in the league, New Orleans currently ranks 25th in points per game on the offensive end of the court. Outside of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, the Pelicans do not have many scoring options, which could wind up hurting them come playoff time.
Redick and Bledsoe have been two of New Orleans’ top three-point shooters this season, but Kemba Walker is a different offensive talent and can be a better overall player than both of them combined. They have some solid role players, but in order for this team to sustain their success and be threats in the Western Conference, they will have to go out and trade for a third high-level scoring option to pair with Zion and Ingram.
The New Orleans Pelicans are a team that has the capability to make a big splash near the trade deadline and with veteran talent and draft assets, they could be a team that looks to trade for Kemba Walker. The only question that remains is if Boston is willing to move on from the NBA All-Star guard after just one season.
