Why This Trade Benefits The Detroit Pistons

Right now, Blake Griffin does not serve much of a purpose with the Detroit Pistons. The team is not going to win this season so it would benefit them to part ways with their veterans. Griffin is step one.

The Pistons were active in the offseason because they like some of their younger players in Hayes and Luke Kennard. Detroit lost Christian Wood to the Houston Rockets and they wasted no time in replacing him. Grant is a strong player and is off to a hot start with his new team.

If the plan is to rebuild, then the Pistons need to clean house and clear some cap space. They would be able to do both in this trade. Both Olynyk and Igoudala are on contracts that would not handcuff the team long term.

The Pistons are setup we on the sideline with Dwane Casey. Now, it is all about putting the right team on the floor to contend. This might take sometime and a trade such as this one would point them in the right direction.
